Thirty-eight minutes of lifting in, get a run. Come back and decide to jump on the bike, spin for sixteen minutes, tones go off again. After returning to quarters, I decided that I'm done and going to clean up. While in the shower, we get sent for another squad run. I quickly jumped out and wiped off as fast as I could. Ran down to the rig and off we went. Was a busy afternoon.

21st & Lapham Fire
Been a few weeks since I've been on. Trying to recall the events of the run.
Early morning (somewhere around 0630) fire tones went off. Arrived on scene to find ourselves the third engine in. Not sure, but we grabbed the rear ten and were ordered to get up into the attic. I had the nozzle and was making my way through the house. Finally found the stairs and ran into 12's going up. There bottles were alarming so I told them we would take over. I knew my boss was right behind me because I kept hearing his radio.
"31's, have you made the attic? You gotta get up there or I'm pulling you out!" Working our way up, I do recall how hot it was. I also heard that there was fire in the basement and on the first floor. And why we were trying to make the attic, I don't know. Anyway, on the stairs, I felt like I was just getting pounded with heat. I noticed a small window which I believe faced west that had been vented so I attempted some hydraulic ventilation. Few moments later, I reached the landing of the attic. Boss told me about some fire to the right, which I didn't see right away, but once I did, I pounded that wall with water. Made our way towards a bedroom to the south, and in doing so, our line was getting caught up somewhere behind us. I placed the nozzle down, and went back to get more line. After what seemed like minutes of doing that and working the nozzle, our alarms started going off and then 32's showed up to take over.
Once outside, I tried to cool off. But my heart was racing and I felt like I just couldn't recover. Got some water in me. A few more minutes went by, boss asked if we were ready. As we went back over by the chief, Nick asked if I was ok. I hesitated because I wasn't for sure. I think he said that I didn't look so good. They escorted me over to Med 3 where I was evaluated. Yeah, a resting heart rate in the 160's. Not so good. I ended up being transported to Luke's where I had the joy of a different Nick, the RT, sticking me for an arterial blood gas sample. What fun.
One other thing, I didn't mean to alarm her, but I don't think Sheri enjoyed my call to home. With called ID, she answered thinking it might be the Hyperbaric Dept calling, asking if I could work today. That changed quickly once she heard my voice. "What's wrong?"
"I'm ok. Just a little heat exhaustion." I responded. Soon, she arrived and after I was discharged, returned to 31's to grab my gear. What a nice start to the day. It ended good too. I got a new phone, the HTC Merge. Which I love!!

Oops!
I heard "mantastic" coming up the stairs and knew it could only mean one thing. He was going to workout a little. Knowing that, I quickly changed and joined in. Much easier when there's someone else. Surprised by how quickly time went by. Felt good throughout. But anyway, after the day was done, I forgot one important thing. My 100 pushups for the day. I woke this morning upset with myself realizing that I did not do them. So, today I doubled the amount of Mr. Pushups that had to be done.

Three Stooges Out Again
8/12
Started at the palace in West Allis, otherwise known as my parents house, with Brad and Leif for a morning ride. Headed southbound on the Oak Leaf all the way down to Milwaukee County Sports Complex just off of Ryan Rd and back. Was just shy of 30 miles for the ride, so I continued northbound to Bluemound and then back home. Really curious how many calories I burned on this ride.

Discipline
Another tool for the tool box. Referring to another quality product from Red Oxx. A smaller pack that we'll use for our trip to New York City, among other places, that I shall be receiving soon. A little bummed that the Rock Hopper is on back order, but for an American made product, I guess good things come to those who wait.
I haven't missed a day since I started. And today wasn't going to be any different. 100 done for eighteen days straight now takes discipline.

Arctic Circle
8/8
Oh boy. Pulling up on scene to an "Uncontrolled Bleeding," police officers were waving us down. That's not good I thought. Turned out to be a young kid that got chewed up by a couple pit bulls. Like he was a rag doll. Quite a few puncture wounds to the arms and legs, but nothing around the neck and no arterial bleeds, at least from what we saw. Interesting start to the day.
Hit the trainer upstairs in what I'm calling the arctic circle. The last few weeks, the a/c unit has been running non stop. Guys from the shop came by to check a few things out and informed us that is was 63 degrees upstairs. A little hard to workout when it's that freaking cold, but Rob and I did get some saddle time in. Did some interval workouts, both on the bike and by taking a couple runs. Oh, and heart rate monitor froze up on me. Something perhaps with the arctic air upstairs, I don't know.

The Other One
Yes, there is another one in the family. Besides Fallen Axe, a 2010 Jeep Wrangler JK, there also is the family Jeep. The family XK. Our 2008 Jeep Commander that we bought new a few years back. Its main duty is to haul those little monsters around town. And has stayed mostly stock. I say that now with no intentions of changing anything, but being a multi-Jeep owner, we'll see how long that lasts.

"Nemo?" she asks as she points to the Tv.
"Yes honey, you can watch Nemo."
I don't know how many times I've watched Toy Story, Shrek, Cars or Finding Nemo. Alot I guess. Having a two year old in the house who just loves her Disney movies does that to me. There's one point in Finding Nemo where Dory suggests to Marlin "Just keep swimming, just keep swimming" as they head deeper into the darkness of the ocean. Yesterday I took that same idea. Sort of. Instead, as I took Thor out for a late evening ride, I left the driveway thinking, just keep spinning. Knowing that it was already dark out, I still wanted to get a few miles in just to clear my head from the days events.
A very easy spin, in fact so easy, I didn't even shift into the big ring. Out to the fair grounds, to main street and home. A very short and easy spin.

Overtime

Worked at 31's. Planned on working out in the afternoon, but we got short on time in the morning after running into the union president at 7's. That put lunch at 1330, because we caught a couple of runs as well. Oh well. Only three runs with one during the night.

Long day at Luke's. Worked the usual shift, headed home and then got called back in at 2345 for a necrotizing fasciitis. Stayed til 0400. Worst part yet, Fallen Axe got a flat on the way home. That sucked.

Morning ride, westbound to Oak Leaf, south past Beloit then back home. Realized computer wasn't zero'd out. Worked to get avg up to 14 from my previous ride of 13.8. Strong headwind from the east wore me out on the way home.

Got the call. New Engine's 31, 32 and 34 are en route to Milwaukee. Dan called to let me know that the new 31's just passed him on the freeway. Very excited.

With a schedule filled day, I knew my chances of getting 20-25 miles in wouldn't be obtainable. Took Reed in for photos, the wife was away in the afternoon, and then later in the day, we picked up supplies for the week. You know, the usual. Diapers, toys, milk, blah blah blah! Anyway, after getting the children down, I was happy to take Thor out for an evening spin. Out to 76th on Cleveland, then down to 6th via Lincoln and back home.
